On our way to LA, we made a quick stop in Santa Barbara. We only stayed a few hours but fell in love with this little town. We explored Downtown Santa Barbara, visited Old Mission Santa Barbara and wandered along the beach.
After spending two nights in a shabby motel in Monterey, we resumed our road trip along California Highway 1 to Los Angeles. Along the way we drove through Big Sur, where we pulled over at Bixby Creek Bridge to take in the scenic view.
On our first morning in Monterey, we drove to the waterfront street, Cannery Row. It is a former location of sardine cannery factories and now a tourist attraction. We had a terrible cinnamon roll there but then I saw Pinkberry and it was all good! :)
We strolled around Cannery Row, deciding whether to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. In the end we decided not to go because we wanted to take the 17 mile drive and drive to Carmel.
The next day we left our hotel in Berkeley to officially begin our road trip along the coast. I was able to snatch another delicious chocolate chip cookie from the hotel for the road ;) We made a stop at Trader Joe’s, the first for both of us, to fuel up on semi-healthy snacks (hello cashew caramel cookies!). If you wash down cookies with green juice it is healthy, right?
We didn’t have the best start in San Francisco. Our flight from Chicago was delayed two and a half hours because of the weather conditions. As we finally made it to San Francisco, we had to wait for our rental car for ages as the staff at Alamo had already left because it was so late… I fell into our bed at 2 am, happy with a chocolate chip cookie in my hand, thanks to the Hilton hotel we were staying in Berkeley. Hello from Chicago!
The best thing about jetlag? I can write blog posts as I am awaiting the opening of the nearest Starbucks ;)
Yesterday my boyfriend and I have landed in Chicago, where our trip will begin. We will be exploring Chicago for the next two days before hopping on a plane to San Francisco. From there we will be driving down the Pacific Coast stopping along the way. Some of our stops will include: Monterey, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Palm Springs.
