On our first morning in Monterey, we drove to the waterfront street, Cannery Row. It is a former location of sardine cannery factories and now a tourist attraction. We had a terrible cinnamon roll there but then I saw Pinkberry and it was all good! :)
We strolled around Cannery Row, deciding whether to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. In the end we decided not to go because we wanted to take the 17 mile drive and drive to Carmel.
We didn’t have the best start in San Francisco. Our flight from Chicago was delayed two and a half hours because of the weather conditions. As we finally made it to San Francisco, we had to wait for our rental car for ages as the staff at Alamo had already left because it was so late… I fell into our bed at 2 am, happy with a chocolate chip cookie in my hand, thanks to the Hilton hotel we were staying in Berkeley. Hello lovely people! I’m back home from my amazing trip and finally ready to share with you my memories in a new travel series.
Before beginning our road trip along the coast of Southern California, we made a stop in Chicago. Neither one of us had been to the “Windy City” before and we were eager to explore it. On Saturday it will be almost a month since I have landed in Chicago. Thankfully I have kept (at least started) a travel diary, writing down all the places we have seen along the way so that now I can relive the moments with you in pictures.
This cake is one of my favorites to make (and to eat!). A raspberry cake with a subtle Amaretto flavor that is so light and fluffy that you could easily eat half of it at once. I sure know because I have done it before!

all i need is a sparkling green tea beverage with super fruits (açaí and aronia berries) and lightly sweetened with agave syrup, with a very powerful message. All ingredients are organically grown and fairly traded.
It is officially summer now and the hottest days are yet to come. A lot of times when it’s hot outside, I don’t feel like having a heavy dinner, but am also not satisfied with just a salad. For those days, I have a light, low-carb dinner alternative for you: Shrimp (Rock N’) Rolls.
Filled full of veggies, these light shrimp rolls are perfect on their own or with a salad on the side. Shrimp (Rock N’) Rolls are my take on Vietnamese spring rolls. These are more coconutty and juicier. I’ve filled mine with a coconut shrimp curry that I’ve cooked before and added some cashews roasted in dark sesame oil for a bit of crunch.
