Oblix – The Shard

The Shard is a skyscraper with an observation deck in London. With its 310 meters, it is currently the tallest building in the European Union. It is called the Shard because it looks like a shard of glass.

We decided to go to Oblix, a restaurant located on the 32th floor for some drinks (food there was nowhere near our budget!).

IMG_4932The obligatory ‘elevator selfie’

As you step out of the elevator you will be led through a dark hallway. Don’t look hesitant when you enter the bar, the waiters will see it as a weakness and won’t let you past them. If you find a table that is free just walk over and sit down. Although the rude ‘reservation lady’ on the phone explained to me that it wasn’t possible to reserve a table at the bar, most of the tables were reserved. We were lucky and found one that was free and just sat down. The waiters, however, were friendly.

We ordered a Mojito and a Mai Tai. They were really good but also pretty strong.

IMG_2449Not the smartest idea to drink on an empty stomach (I was chewing on the mint leaves from my cocktail). When we asked to see a menu, to order an appetizer to share, they wouldn’t serve us food because we didn’t have a reservation. On the other hand, when I called to reserve a table, I was told that they didn’t take reservations at the bar?! They do operate under some weird policies or maybe it is just how these posh places work?

IMG_4928The view was quite spectacular! The Tower Bridge under the full moon. You don’t have to feel silly wanting to press your nose to the window, everyone does it!

Apparently the restaurant side has an even better view. I was pretty satisfied with this one!

Despite the struggles to get a table, the view was incredible and the cocktails were pretty darn good.

In my opinion, we found a better place to eat… Chipotle! Food never tasted this good! I devoured my burrito bowl in no time.
