Velvet Rose and Oud – Jo Malone

For my birthday I was very lucky to receive this beautiful fragrance from one of my favorite brands, Jo Malone. If you can’t tell by now, I love rose fragrances. Jo Malone’s rose scents are definitely different than your typical rose perfumes.

It is a divine blend of delicate roses with a pinch of spices and a woody finish. This perfume is definitely a ‘grown-up scent’. Compared to Rose Water & Vanilla, this is a darker rose fragrance, definitely spicier from the cardamon and with stronger woody undertones because of the oud. It is also creamier and has texture to it, while not being too heavy. While Rose Water & Vanilla is sweet and lovely, Velvet Rose & Oud is dark, sexy and simply irresistible. For me Rose Water & Vanilla would be a more of a daytime perfume while Velvet Rose & Oud is more suitable for the night.

Jo Malone’s Velvet Rose and Oud is impressively long lasting as all of Jo Malone’s intense fragrances. I haven’t tried layering it with any other Jo Malone fragrance but I think it would work well with Blue Agava & Cacao for a sweeter note. I am also intrigued to try it with Rose Water & Vanilla. It might be too much though.

P.S. The candle burning in the background is my new favorite from Bath & Body Works, called Snow Day, I picked it up while I was in New York. It smells amazing like pine trees with a hint of vanilla.

Hi Vicki, you are so right, I also can´t get enough of Velvet Rose and Oud, it is fascinating and lasts so long. But I think it is more suitable for the cold season. So I am really curious, what you recommend for spring. XOXO Chrissie

[…] I find Jo Malone’s Velvet Rose & Oud particularly special. It is definitely a darker, sexy rose scent with sweet notes. If you think that a candle can’t smell sexy, you haven’t smelled this one! ;) I will do a separate post about this candle because the scent is so unique. Meanwhile you can find my thoughts on the perfume here. […]
